Spinning models, Calabasas and an all burgundy Kim K?? Kanye West seems to have upped his game at the latest New York Fashion Week, straying away from the skintight nudes that posed as a recurring theme in the season 4 line up and moving to more modern edgy and all together more comfortable looking clothes. The season 5 collection featured an array of different pieces, some pretty plain and contemporary others rather out there, one of which in my opinion being the full denim boiler suit, not sure that will be making its way to high street fashion this year?
The introduction of denim in this particular loosened fit gave West a new aura of cool, styled into knee highs and thigh highs the denim played a backseat in some of the looks accentuating the footwear, especially the gorgeous brown suede thigh highs, which are to be lusted over! West didn’t miss out his chance to add in an element of his music career to the show, with slogans such as ‘Calabasas’ and ‘Lost Hills’ emblazoned on certain pieces from the collection, referencing his new collab album with Drake. Model Halima Aden certainly didn’t miss her chance to shine during the show at Pier 59, she was a NYFW first, modelling a beautiful all fur coat and wearing her own hijab, this is a great sight in the ever changing world of fashion, diversity.
Out of all the positives of this Yeezy show there fell one negative, the new Yeezy ‘sneaker’, it has received mixed views, but this time I have to agree with the majority, what was Kanye thinking? Twitter jibes have named it the ‘dad sneaker’, it really isn’t what we were expecting after the fantastic response to the Yeezy Boost. Perhaps Kanye needs to rethink? No doubt they will fly off the shelves but really, chunky trainers are definitely not the best option for 2017.
